Blue Eyed Gertrude's are one of the rarer blue eyed rainbow fish.  These beautiful fish are native to New Guinea, Indonesia and Australia.  In the wild, these calm, peaceful fish live in large communities in the wild.  In your tank, they would excel in shoals of 6 or more.  They do the best in planted tanks as this best resembles the natural environment they swim in. Since these mid to top water fish are docile and peaceful, they do best with tanks that let them shine on their own or in tanks with fishes of comparable size, disposition and requirements.  They will do well in a tank with shrimp, corys and oto's as well.

Natural Habitat

Blue Eye Gertrudes hail from shallow, slow-moving freshwater streams, rainforest creeks, swamps and floodplains with dense aquatic vegetation and marginal plant cover.

Feeding and Diet

With Gertrudes very small mouths and non-competitive nature, these fish need to be fed nano-pellets. They also love baby brine shrimp as a treat.

Tankmates and Compatibility
Shrimp Compatibility

Because Gertrudes only grow to 1.5 inches long with very small mouths, these nano fish are one of the greatest companions to all shrimp.

Aquascaping

Gertrudes love very dense planted tanks for places to hide and seek. They also would like moderate plant cover.
